Friends Learn Together

Today is my birthday (yay!), and the start of my year-long project, “40 lessons before 40”.

This personal project is a love letter to myself, friends, and family, as I spend the next 12 months learning new skills, while I document my improvement until my 40th birthday.

As I think on what skills I have, I usually suffer a mini existential crisis and self-doubt trying to remember what can I do, let alone, what I'm good at. Most things done on a regular basis seem so inconsequential and almost mundane, and honestly, forgettable:  how to make your bed, how to drive (though I could get better at parking), or how to make scrambled eggs. But that’s the point of this endeavor.

We all started at literally zero, and someone dedicated the time to teach us how to do a thing and now look at us! Doing so much in every waking moment that we forget how we got to this place, and that it was a blessing that someone showed us the way.

My dad always tells me, “Mija, anything can be learned.” Here's to discovering what the next year will teach me!

Wish me luck, and hey, maybe you'll learn something new too.
